William "Bill" Cable was born on May 8, 1952, in Geddes, the first child of Walter LeRoy Cable and Rose (Hermanek) Cable. His childhood was spent playing and rough housing with four older and  two younger siblings on the family farm outside of Geddes. Bill graduated from High School in 1970 and immediately joined the National Guard where he served until 1976. Bill's unit was called to help with the flood that devastated the Rapid City area in 1972.

That same year, Bill met his sweatheart, Susan Lucas at her grandfather's tavern in Geddes, SD. Because she shared his interest in cars and playing pool, he was instantly smitten with her. They were married on January 11, 1974, and moved to Winner, SD, where they raised their three sons, Nick, Adam, and Aaron.

Bill spent most of his life working as a mechanic for Grossenburg Implement and Mathis Implement, then as a truck driver for Kaiser Trucking and then for his own trucking business. Later he worked for the Tripp County Highway Department.

Bill had many interests throughout his life, but his passion was always cars, trucks, old tractors and anything that would "go;" a love he shared with Susan and his sons. He raced at the Winner Speedway and eventually worked in the Speedway Pits.  In the early '90s, he attended a school for building Winston Cup stock cars in Charlotte, NC. This led to him traveling to many Nascar events and volunteering for several Nascar Truck Race teams.  Notable special memories was working races for AJ Foyt and Bob Keselowski.

Bill's love of fishing couldn't be denied; a hobby he shared with his sons. He knew where the best bass ponds were in Tripp County and could be seen taking his pickup and little boat out every chance he could get. He donated many pairs of pliers to several lakes and ponds in the area, but that never bothered him as much as losing a lure or breaking a line. In true fisherman fashion, that big one always got away.

He was also a member of the Gold Prospectors for several years and spent many weekends in the Black Hills in South Dakota and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Through those years, he discovered new friends and learned about the science and geographical features of potential gold bearing ground.

From the moment Bill met Susan they could be seen on the dance floor.  A longtime friendship began with Al Tuffs and the Cables spent many Saturday nights following Al Tuffs and the Night Raiders band.  Bill also loved to play guitar himself.  Never formally trained, he continued to give himself lessons throughout his life and also continued to bring home any guitar and string instrument he could find, often sneaking "one more" into the house hoping to charm Susan into why he needed another!

After a full life, Bill passed away Monday, September 1, 2025 at the age of 73 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. His family will forever cherish the happy memories and life lessons he left for them.

He is survived by his life dance partner and wife of 51 years, Susan; three sons – Nick (Nicole) of Lennox, SD; Adam of Winner, SD; and Aaron (Samantha) of Summerset, SD; grandchildren and great grandchildren – Tristan (Cienna) Cable and sons William and Wyatt of Hamill, SD; Bethany (Storm) Mattern and son Rowen of Tulsa, OK; and Kady Cable of Winner, SD; brothers – Ron (Sharon) Globke of Canton, SD;  Ed (Kathy) Globke of Columbus, Ohio;  John (Lori) Cable of Gedde, SD; sisters – Irene Lund of Elma, IA and Rita (Marty) Boese of Geddes, SD; 5 Lucas Bothers-in-Law Rick (Donna), Platte; Don (Mary Ann),Platte; Patrick (Diane),Mitchell; Brian (Amy),Spearfish; Bruce (Dawn),Volga, SD; 4 Sisters- in -Law  Anita Schoenfelder, Morris, Mn; Kathy (Donnie) Bogenhagen, Kimball; Lori (John) Cable, Geddes; Amy (Preston) Burma, Platte.  Many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, three sisters – Rosetta Muilenburg, Cheryl Strehlow and Elsie Tank; father and mother in-law Everett and Alice Lucas.

In the end, it's impossible to sum up 73 years of a well lived life full of friends, hobbies, lots of laughs over a cold beer (probably more than one, but never more than a few) and above all family.
