Wilford "Bud" Leighton Sr, 90, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Witten Baptist Church in Witten, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service.
Bud was born on June 20, 1935, in Mission, SD, to William and Opal (Critchfield) Leighton. He was united in marriage to Belva Jean Sund on October 12, 1957. Together they raised four children; Brenda, Vicky, Wilford Jr., and Kelly. They made their home and raised their family in Witten, South Dakota.
Bud was a farmer/rancher until he started working in Winner, SD for B & M Customs as an upholsterer. After he left B & M Customs, he continued doing upholstery work for Classic Upholstery in Winner, SD until he retired at the age of 72. When Bud was not working, you could find him outside or in the garage tinkering with his vehicles or projects around the home.
In April, 2019 Bud and Jean moved to Winner, South Dakota.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Vicky (Jim) Supik of Winner, SD, his son Kelly (Jody) Leighton of Colome, SD. Grandchildren; Kasie (Kyle) Leighton of Burke, SD, Lane (Jordyn) Leighton of Colome, SD, Westin Leighton of Colome, Ryan Supik of Winner, SD, and Shane (Jesslon) Supik of Kimball, Sd Jamey Hanson, Sioux Falls, Sd, Jason (Crystal) Hanson of Belle Fourche and John Hanson, of WI, great-grandchildren; Bailey Supik of Gregory, SD, Camden Supik, Nolan Fields of Hill City, SD and great-grandbaby expected in June, and a host of many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Belva Jean, his daughter Brenda (Vanderwalker) Leighton, his son Wilford Jr., his sisters; Hazel Harrison, Arlene Olson and Donna Larvie and his parents William and Opal Leighton.
