Obituary

Walter "Walt" Soles passed away on Friday, March 8th, 2024, surrounded by family at his home in Winner, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at 1:00PM at the Tripp County 4-H Center in Winner, SD. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 from 6-7PM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD.

Walt was born on October 13th, 1955, in Winner due to a car accident. His parents were Woodrow (Bud) and Nellie (Mahaffa) Soles.

He attended Beaver Creek Rural School, later graduating from Winner High School in 1973. He then went on to attend and graduate Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City, South Dakota. He graduated with an associate degree in small engine repair. He worked for various dealerships in Rapid City. One of which he repaired numerous types of cars. Another one he repaired smaller things, such as motorcycles, snow mobiles, and jet skis. Walt loved anything that had a motor and had passion for speed.

Walt married Sheila Marrs in 1978, they later moved back to the family ranch in May 1980. Two sons were born, named William and Matthew. In 2004 Walt divorced Sheila. Shortly after, his girlfriend Marlene Burdick moved back to Winner. They got together and bought a local body shop, later transforming it into a repair shop named "Soles Repair." They lived there until purchasing a house just west of Winner where he continued to repair motor vehicles until his health started to decline.

Walt was survived by his sister Barbara Sturgill, his brother Wayne Soles, his girlfriend Marlene, Bill and his wife Jamie Soles, Matt Soles and his girlfriend Deondra Gillis, and his grandchildren: Kaylee, Devin, Kennedy, Morgan, and Logan.

Walt was proceeded in death by his parents and grandparents, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins.
