Vincent Earl Zutz, age 90, of Winner, passed away on February 17, 2015 at the Winner Long Term Care Facility. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Union Baptist Church in Burke, SD. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD with a prayer service beginning at 7PM. Vincent Earl Zutz was born February 25, 1924 in Burke, SD to Karl Ernest and Cecelia Alberta (Harder) Zutz. He attended school in Burke and graduated as salutatorian from Burke High School in 1942. While in school he participated in various extra-curricular activities. He attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa for one year and then volunteered for the U.S. Army. He served in Ft. Benning, Georgia, Camp Livingston, Louisiana and served in Europe in the 10th Armored Division during World War II. He contracted trenchfoot and was sent back to the U.S. through various Army hospitals. He was later discharged from the service at Ft. Carson, Colorado on July 26, 1945. He then attended Iowa State and South Dakota State College on the G.I. Bill. He married Eileen Eastlund on August 28, 1950 at Lucas, South Dakota. To this union four children were born: Eugenie, Sandra, Jerry and Darin. They made their home in Burke. He was employed at the Soil Conservation Service in Burke until 1965 when he was transferred to Gettysburg. In 1976 he was transferred to Winner. He retired in 1981 and later obtained his real estate salesman's license. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Soil and Water Conservation Society. In earlier days he was a member of the Burke Community Club and the American Cancer Society and served as a tax consultant for the elderly. He maintained an interest in automobiles throughout his life and in earlier times helped his uncle Fred Zutz in his automobile business at Burke in his spare time. He was interested in his children's activities, helping out with school and sports events. Car trips to various family events and vacations were interesting for the stories he told about weekends at his grandparents' farm south of Gregory, going to college, Army life and soil conservation happenings. He was very proud of his Army service. Survivors include his two sons, Jerry and his wife Jean of Sioux Falls and Darin and his wife Cathy of Cypress, Texas, one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Sandra) Daltrey of Winner, three grandchildren, Karla Zutz (Cody) Rasmussen, David Zutz and Cierra Zutz, three step-grandchildren Patrick Aleck, Sahra (Manolo) Gomar and their son Alejandro Gomar, and Jeremy Aleck; a sister, Carol Pinkall of Gretna, Nebraska, several nephews and nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, four infant children and other relatives.
