Vernon Debus, 83, Winner, SD passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility, Winner. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Winner Cemetery at10:00 am. Vernon Leroy Debus was born on December 25, 1930 to John and Frieda (Schlager) Debus at Mitchell, NE. Vernon was raised, attended and graduated high school in Torrington, Wyoming. Vernon was united in marriage to Joyce Lorraine Godbey on January 5, 1950 in Kansas. Vernon was a meat cutter and butcher by trade and worked in many different grocery stores. Some of the places include Torrington, Chadron, Gordon, Columbus, Gering, Scottsbluff, Minden, Texas, McCook, Mission and Winner. Joyce passed away on November 28, 1995. Vernon enjoyed fishing and going to the casino. Vernon is survived by his children: Vicky McKenzie, Jan Remmenga, Brenda Debus, Vern Debus and Don (Stacey) Debus, all of Winner; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brother Larry (Karen) Debus, of Alliance, NE and sister Nancy Huckfeldt, of Sheridan, WY. Vernon was preceded in death by his son Kevin, wife Joyce, parents John and Frieda, son-in-law Dick McKenzie and brother-in-law Fritz Huckfeldt.
