Ty Thompson, 77, of Winner, SD passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 26, 2026 in Winner, South Dakota. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Winner City Cemetery. Procession will start at the First Baptist Church at 10:45 AM.
Ty was born in Miller, South Dakota on November 14th, 1948. He grew up as a youngster in Wessington, South Dakota on the farm. Ty attended elementary school in Gregory, South Dakota where they lived. Two of Ty's favorite activities during this time were spending time outdoors fishing and time on the football field where he acquired the nickname "Thumper". As Ty entered his high school years his parents owned and operated the Rambler Dealership in Colome, South Dakota. He graduated from Colome High School in 1968.
On June 22nd, 1968, Ty married Bonnie Frank in Winner, South Dakota. To that union four children were born; Chantelle, Margaret, Wyatt and Abby. He loved being a husband and dad. Ty loved watching his children grow. Some of his hobbies were fishing, wood working, fixing old cares and welding.
In August of 2022, Ty was united in marriage to his loving wife Sandi Wickersham. Ty and Sandi hit it off instantly with a common hobby that brought them together, the game of bingo. They enjoyed doing anything as long as they were doing it together.
Ty is preceded in death by his father Lloyd Earl Thompson, mother M. Joyce (Groves), wife Bonnie, daughter Chantelle, and son Wyatt.
Survivors cherishing his memory are his wife Sandy, daughters; Margaret Muggy and Abby (Joseph) Drummond, brother Daniel Lee Thompson, sister Mary (Gary) Boyer, grandchildren; Josie, Jordan, Joseph, Kevin, Maisie, Ty, Michael, Jacob, Madison, Savannah, Alexis, Zander, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
