Ruth Sund, 93, of Winner, SD, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:00am at the First Christian Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 5-7:00pm at the First Christian Church. Ruth Edna (Burdick) Sund was born in Genoa, Nebraska on January 21, 1921 to William and Carleana (nelson) Burdick. She was the youngest of five children. Ruth spent part of childhood in Genoa, and then the family moved to Keya Paha, where they lived on a small farm. She graduated from Winner High School. She met the love of her life, Eldon Sund, during her senior year of high school. They were married on September 18, 1938 in Chamberlain, South Dakota and they settled in Winner. To this union 14 children were born. In addition to raising 14 children, Ruth also worked at Omaha Cold Storage, Holmes Café, PeeWee Foltz's Café, and Stan's Café. Grateful for having shared her life are her children; Belva Jean (Bud) Leighton, Ruth Marie (Bob) Benedict, Carol Hight, Larry (Lorinda) Sund, Linda (Sund) Don (Susan) Sund, Jim Sund, Mike (Mary) Hodge, Wanda (Ron) Klein, Connie Jones, Nancy (Jeff) Peters, and Roger (Tammy) Sund; and a niece, Carlean Stern. She was also loved by a total of 117 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; two children, Pat and Janet; three son-in-laws Loran Tarrell, Cliff Hight, and Kenny Parvin; one brother, Dike Burdick; three sisters, Inez Nordstrom, Alta Nordstrom, and Gladys Zajic; and a niece, Elaine Nordstrom. She will be missed by her special friends and staff at the nursing home
