Ronald Roy Horstman, 85, of Winner, SD passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility in Winner, SD.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11:00AM at the First Christian Church in Winner, SD.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service.

Ronnie was born August 11, 1938, in Winner, SD to Frank and Majel (McManigal) Horstman, the eldest of 2 brothers and 1 sister.  He attended grade school at Schmidt School and graduated High School in 1956 in Winner, SD.

After graduating from High School Ronnie returned to the family farm in the Mosher township and worked for various neighbors along the way.

In January of 1960 Ronnie met the love of his life Bonnie  B "Short" Long in Witten, SD.  Not taking Ronnie long to figure out she was the one, they married on August 14, 1960.  To this union two daughters were born, Rhonda Rae on February 17, 1962 and Bonita Bea on July 19, 1963.

Ronnie served on various boards to include the Wood school board, ASC board of Mellete County and the Mosher Township board.

Ronnie knew how to have a great time and enjoyed his family to its fullest.  Attending all the sporting events of his daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren traveling many miles.  Ronnie was a talented water skier teaching many how to water ski, and on his 70th birthday skied with his daughters in the Missouri River in Chamberlain SD with many watching.  Ronnie was the community welder and welded many pieces of machinery for the neighbors.  Some of his other activities he enjoyed were his many travels with friends and family camping, golfing, and bowling.  Ronnie's home was always open to all for a meal.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 63 years Bonnie, daughters Rhonda (Ray) Trudeau of Mitchell, SD, Bonita (Doug) Rowe, of Carter, SD. Grandchildren; Brea (Brian) Baumgart, Mitchell, SD, Amber (Christian) Moody, Carter, SD, Christopher Nelson, Mitchell, SD, Autumn (Mark) Tucker, Carter, SD, Ryan (Shaneyl) Rowe, Carter, SD, Charlee Nelson, Mitchell, SD. Great-grandchildren; Gavin Tucker, Ashlynn McPhee, Gage Tucker, Kane Rowe, Bodhi Baumgart, Wren Rowe, Marisa and Madi Baumgart, Sioux Falls, SD. Great-great-grandchild Hayden Baumgart. Sisters-inlaw Beverly Nespor and Carol Horstman of Winner, SD.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Majel Horstman, brothers; Darrell "Shorty" Horstman, Barry Horstman, sister, Donna New, In-laws; Robert and Sylvia Long Sr, brothers-in-laws, Robert Long Jr., Alvin New Jr. and Swede Long, sisters-in-law, Gayle Long and Carol Long, and grandson-in-law Nathan McPhee.
