Robert "Bob" George Nelson – Left this earth Wednesday August 28th 2024.  Bob was born in Canton SD on March 8th 1958 to Thedore and Arlene Nelson.  He grew up and attended school in Winner SD. In his youth he was very active.  He played basketball, participated in track, and ran the 440, but his favorite sport was baseball where he was recognized for being an outstanding infielder.  He was also involved in Cub Scouts.   He was a proud graduate of the Winner Warrior class of 1977.

Bob began courting Denise Soesbe of Gregory, he would ride his bike or even hitchhike to and from Gregory to see her.  They were married in 1977 and from this union two daughters were born: Starla and Bobbie. He moved his family to Kennebec, SD where he started cooking. From there the family went to Valentine, NE, then Rapid City, SD. Bob received his diploma from WDT in 1982 for Auto Body. While working at the Hilton in Rapid City his cooking skills were noticed by another chef that was being transferred to Denver, Bob was asked to go along.  Being recently divorced he jumped at the opportunity.

Bob was a man of many talents and truly took a bite out of life! He utilized his knowledge and built upon all his skills throughout his life.

In Denver he ran a kitchen, prepared, cooked and served large banquets, even created ice sculptures for center pieces.  He later found himself in Phoenix, AZ assembling race trucks.  The trucks could not hold his attention forever. His next adventure was long haul trucking. He enjoyed traveling and seeing this great country, coast to coast. If you were taking a road trip he could tell you which Interstate or highway to use without having to really think much about it.  He had a wealth of knowledge from cooking and traveling to being able to decipher what the issue with your vehicle was by simply hearing a noise.

If you knew Bob or was ever a neighbor of his you know he was a true lover of Rock N Roll music and was always turning up the volume!  He would read about his favorite bands and enjoyed watching them live whether that be in person or on DVD.  He shared his love of music with his daughters, taking them to concerts whenever he could.

In his down time he enjoyed building model cars and working on his numerous vehicles. He was a lifelong friend to many, including those he met at school and social gatherings.

A graveside service will be held at the Winner Cemetery on Monday September 16th at 2pm with a celebration of life to follow at the Holiday Inn Express.  In honor of Bobs love for music please feel free to wear your favorite band t-shirt…don't forget your bandanna.
