Mildred Stritecky, 99, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, SD. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery in Winner, SD. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 4:30 to 5:30PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 5:30PM.
Mildred Stritecky was born on January 9, 1919, on a farm near Colome, SD, to Lawrence & Marie (Spacil) Stritecky. She attended rural schools in Tripp County and graduated from Colome High School in 1936. She shared many fond memories of her school years with her family such as sharing a bedroom with four other high school girls as a boarder at a house in town.
Her professional career began at a local grocery store and continued to bookkeeping duties at Grossenburg Implement, finance association employee and general duties at an abstract office. She ended her professional career as an Avon Lady, retiring after 25 years at the age of 90. Her work ethic & wise financial planning allowed her to travel to many states and several foreign countries, including Czechoslovakia and Sweden.
Mildred believed in supporting her church and community. She was a lifelong member of Court Mary Imelda Catholic Daughters, long time member of BPW, Women's Club, Western Fraternal Life Assoc., Friends of the Library and Winner Quarterback Club. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church, Winner, and continued to attend mass regularly while residing at Winner Long Term Care.
Anyone who knew Mildred knows how much she enjoyed sports, especially Winner Warriors, Lady Warriors, Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She was widely recognized for her vocal and loyal support! She also spent many hours fishing and playing cards. LTC was a prime place for her to "hone" her card playing and bingo skills.
She chose to remain a single lady and never had her own children but she gave special attention to her nieces and nephews and their families. The family remembers the Christmas and birthday gifts from her, some may still have "soap on a rope" in a drawer! Easter brought a basket full of Avon products to go through & take home.
Her family will always have heart felt memories of our special Aunt Mildred. We feel blessed that we were able to have a "almost a 100" birthday party in July with all nieces & nephews present.
She is survived by her nieces & nephews, Regina (Doug) Kogel, Emmetsburg, IA, Larry (Judy) Wagner, Colome, SD, Janet (Monte) Kahler, Rapid City, SD, Joyce Heath, Winner, Kevin (Lori) Wagner, Winner, Harold (Nona) Krizan, Prescott, AZ, Bonnie Johnson, Gregory, SD, Marilee (Paul) Richards, Paxico, KS, Don (Lois) Krizan, Janesville, WI, and numerous great & great great nieces & nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters, Rose Pravecek, Marie Krizan Kimball & Sedonia Wagner and niece, Nancy Miester.
Mildred's last years were enriched by the staffs of the Elder Inn and Winner Long Term Care Center. You blessed all of our lives.
