Mercedes Pritzkau, 89, of Winner, SD formerly of Lantry, SD passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at her home in Winner. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM MT at the All Saints Parish Catholic Church in Eagle Butte, SD. Burial will follow in the Lantry Cemetery west of Eagle Butte, SD. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 6-7PM MT with a rosary beginning at 7:00PM MT .
Mercedes Virginia Griffith was born on June 25, 1936 in Dupree, SD to Alvin and Rose (Tracy) Griffith. She attended Fairview Country School through 8th grade. She attended high school in Dupree.
On May 14, 1955 she married Carl Pritzkau at Dupree, SD. They owned and operated a dairy farm and raised their five children in the Lantry area.
In 1982, she went to work as a bookkeeper for the Priests of the Sacred heart in Eagle Butte, SD. She retired in 2016.
Mercedes was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Her husband Carl passed away in 2016 and in 2021 she moved to Winner, SD to live with her daughter Cara, where she passed away on May 27, 2026.
She is survived by her sons; Randy, Dupree, SD and Ron, Rapid City, SD and her daughters Tracy (George) McFarland , Pierre, SD, Mary (Joe) Higgins, Naper, NE and Cara (Blake) Horstman, Winner, SD, grandchildren; John (Ashtin) Higgins, Kaitlyn (Ian) Bish, Jennifer (James) Battershaw, Alli (Jeremy) Williams, great-grandchildren; Daytona Paris, Adrianne Novak, Brynn and Charlotte Bish, Teagen and Sterling Williams. Also surviving are her sisters; Alva Till, Ekalaka, MT, and Leona (Gary) Ruzicka, Belle Fourche, SD. Her brothers, Carl, Tom (Karen) and Rollis all of Rapid City, SD and her brother-in-law John Flahaven, Sundance, WY.
Mercedes was preceded in death by her husband Carl, parents Alvin and Rose, sisters; Loretta (Melvin) Shuck, Janet (Bill) Vermilyea, Maude Flahaven, Dorothy (Bernie) Tibbs, and infant sister Theresa and her brother-in-law Joe Till.
