Melvin Huggins, 66, of Sioux Falls, SD, formally of Winner, SD passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Colome City Cemetery in Colome, SD. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 5-7:00pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Melvin Huggins was born July 31, 1948 at Valentine, NE to Lloyd and Faye (Davis) Huggins. He was raised with his younger sister, Karen, near Keya Paha, SD. He attended the Gabler country school graduating from the 8th grade in May 1962 and graduated from Todd County High School in May 1966. Melvin attended the Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, MN for a nine month course in Airline Transportation and Traffic Management. After graduation he moved to Chicago, IL and worked for a time for Delta Airlines. After returning to South Dakota Melvin ranched with his father, Lloyd Huggins, near Keya Paha, SD. On June 14, 1969 Melvin married Elaine Edwards and four children were born- Glen, Kelly, Brandi, and Bruce. After leaving the ranch Melvin worked in and around the Winner area and for Bob's Standard Station until his health failed. He enjoyed going to auction sales, riding his motorcycle, trading, entering contest sweepstakes, and Native American crafts. On May 25, 1990 Melvin married Janice (Reed) Kindle Taylor and became a step-parent to Wayne, Cheryl, Larry, Ron, and Rhonda. He enjoyed seeing his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren as much as possible and enjoyed the years that he and Janice shared riding on the motorcycle and traveling. Melvin attended the Winner Church of the Nazarene and served on the church building committee and later attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. After 18 years of living in Winner, Melvin and Janice moved to Sioux Falls, SD due to health and to be closer to children and grandchildren. Grateful to having shared his life are his wife Janice and their children and grandchildren. Brother-in-law Jim Kaiser of Millboro, SD and his children Troy Kaiser of St. Joesph, MO; Clay (Renae) Kaiser and their children Bailey, Arista, Abe and Ash of Millboro, SD; Kody (Gordon) Assman, their children Coy and Ryann of Mission, SD. Sister-in-law Janell (Frank) Millian of Winner, SD, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Lloyd and Faye Huggins, grandparents and sister, Karen Kaiser, step-daughter Brenda Kindle, and great-granddaughter Twain Huggins.
