M ary Bachmann, 75, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, January 7th, 2019 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00AM at the United Methodist Church in Winner.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Winner from 6-7PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.

Mary was born on February 15, 1943 in Ainsworth, NE to Mark "Newt" VonHeeder and Elizabeth "Betty" Shirts VonHeeder.  Mary grew up on a farm in Springview, NE.  As the firstborn child, she had many responsibilities and chores.  After graduating from Keya Paha County High School in 1960, she attended business school in Denver, Colorado, specializing in accounting/bookkeeping.

After school, she and Jack Bachmann met while she was working at an insurance office in Gregory.  They were married on November 16, 1963 in Burke, SD.  They began their lives in Winner, SD as they started their family with their firstborn child, Elizabeth.

Later, they traveled across the state following Jack's concrete and bridge construction jobs.  Both Scott and Becky were born during these years.  They eventually settled back in Winner, SD.

Jack and his brother Wally decided to buy the bee farm where they worked.  They named it Bachmann Brothers' Bee Farm Inc.  Mary did the book-keeping for the Bee Farm as she raised their seven children, including the final four: Todd, Jacque, Jenny, and Eric.

Mary was an active member of the Sunnyside & Newcomers Extension Groups.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, reading, bowling, gardening, assisting with 4-H and attending church.  She adored her 25 grandchildren and later 9 great-grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with loved ones.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Mark "Newt" and Elizabeth "Betty" VonHeeder of Springview, NE, 2 brothers Mark VonHeeder Jr. and David (a stillborn).

Mary is survived by her spouse, Ellry "Jack" Bachmann of Winner, SD.  Seven children:  Elizabeth Bachmann Nease of Savannah, GA, Scott Bachmann of Winner, SD, Rebecca "Becky" (and spouse Dean) Novotny of Colome, SD, Todd (and Elizabeth "Liz") Bachmann of Winner, SD, Jacqueline "Jacque" (and Russell) Boerner of Winner, SD, Jennifer "Jenny" (and Brad Buchholtz) Bachmann of Yankton, SD and Eric (and Leslie) Bachmann of Winner, SD.  She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as her sister Marlene McHugh and several nieces and nephews from Springview, NE.
