Obituary

Marlys Remmers, 83, of Winner, SD, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  Memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00AM at the Winner Methodist Church in Winner, SD.  Burial will follow in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD at a later date.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to memorial service.

Marlys was born on April 2, 1943, in Clark, SD, to Keith and Audrey Stanley.  She graduated in 1961 from Clark High School.  She worked as a waitress until 1963 where she met Archie Remmers.  After dating for only 6 months, they got married on August 24, 1963.  They brought into this union four children: Doug, David, Brian and Melissa.

Marlys was a stay-at-home wife and mother while her children were young but occasionally helped area potato farmers by riding the potato harvester in the fall.  She also babysat for a couple neighbors during the school year.  In 1985, Marlys went to work at the Nursing Home in Clark, SD as a nurse aide.

In November 1987, Archie and Marlys moved their family to Winner, SD.  She worked at the Winner Nursing Home as a medication aide and nurse aide, until she moved over to Winner Regional Hospital to work as a CNA and Unit Clerk.  She retired in 2013 after working there for 20 years.  After retirement, Marlys enjoyed being campground hosts with her husband at West Bend Recreation Area for 15 years.

Marlys is survived by her husband Archie.  Children; Doug Remmers, Brian (Karen) Remmers, and Melissa (Gary) Petersen, all of Winner, SD.  Grandchildren; Makayla, Makenna (Cade Currier), Dalton, Kacie Petersen, Brody, Ayla, Tate (Payton), Emmit Remmers, in-laws; Loren Josephson, Wes and Judy Remmers, Mavis Remmers, Gary and Kathy Remmers, Arlo and Colita Remmers, and Roger Remmers along with many nieces and nephews.

Marlys was preceded in death by her infant son David Remmers, her parents Keith and Audrey Stanley, her in-laws Arthur and Elaine Remmers.  Marlys is also preceded in death by her sister Darla Popkes, sisters-in-law; Karleen Josephson, Dona Remmers, brothers-in-law; Ken Popkes, and Carl Remmers.
