Mark Mayes, 57, of Ideal, SD, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at him home in Ideal, SD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 11:00am at the Ideal Presbyterian Church in Ideal, SD. Burial will be held one half hour prior to funeral service at the Ideal Cemetery. Mark was born in Winner, SD on June 22, 1956 to Charles "Bud" and Mabel Ann (Hrabanek) Mayes. Mark attended Ideal Grade School and graduated from Winner High School in 1974. He was a member of the Ideal Presbyterian Church. He was in the National Guard for six years and became a welder when he was in the Guards. Mark was active in 4-H and the Winner High School Rodeo Club. He worked at the "Friday Sales" at the Winner Livestock Auction for over 20 years. Mark farmed and ranched his entire life in the Ideal community. Mark loved working with his cattle and horses and farmed the original Mayes homestead farm. Mark is survived by his mother Mabel Ann Mayes of Winner, SD. Brothers and sisters- Charlene Nelson of Winner, SD, Cynthia (John) Peterson of Winner, SD, Melvin (Joan) Mayes of Winner, SD, Catherine Mayes of Kailua, Hawaii and Monte (Pam) Mayes of Ideal, SD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father Charles "Bud" Mayes, nephew Josh Mayes and great nephew Cole Nelson. Also, preceding Mark in death were his uncles and aunts. Mark will be missed by many.
