Louise Root, 88, of Winner, SD passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 2:00PM at the Assembly of God Church in Winner. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday from 1:00PM-2:00PM.

Louise was born on June, 8, 1927 in the Winner Hospital to William Merchen and Josephine Irene Cummings. In 1949, Louise married Frank Stanley Root. She worked as a telephone operator for many years and then as a bookkeeper for her husband's many business ventures. She was also an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Winner, SD, as well as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Louise loved her family, friends and cooking school lunches for her grandchildren.

She loved to go out for coffee and was always finely dressed in her heels, suits and jewelry.

Louise is survived by her children Roger (Linda) Root of Winner, SD, Wanda (Bruce) Carlquist of Parker, CO, Dave Root of Renner, SD, sister Joann Jerred of Winner, SD, brother Ronnie Merchen of Winner, SD and an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Louise is preceded in death by her husband Frank Root, sister Ailene Shriner, brother Richard (Dick) Merchen, sister Dorthy Wedean, stepdaughter Betty Speed and grandson Jesse Root.
