Larry Nagel, 80, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, July 2nd 2022, at the Winner Long Term Care Center in Winner, SD. A private family memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8th, 2022 at 3:00PM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD.

Larry Lee Nagel was born May 30th, 1942 in Clearfield, SD to Leo and Leah (Redlinger) Nagel. Larry was the youngest of 4 children. Darlene Ducheneaux, Wayne, Wesley, and Larry.

He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Winner High School in 1960.

After graduation he started working for Tripp County Highway Department.

In 1962 he met and married Rena Cornemann at Gregory, South Dakota and to this union five children were born: Sayna, Landi, Kara, Thayne and Rhett.  They later divorced in 1981.

Deciding it was time to get out on his own, he bought a loader from the County and later a truck.  That was the beginning of Nagel Construction.  He hauled gravel, rocks, sand, graded roads, built dams, demolished houses and businesses.  In 1993, he sold Nagel Construction to his son, Thayne, who had worked with him before and after he graduated from high school.

Larry belonged to the Lions and followed the activities of all four children, but was the happiest when he was able to hunt, fish or trap, depending on the season.  He also taught all of his children the importance of a good work ethic.

In 2017, he had a stroke and was in the Elder Inn for a short time, then moved into the Winner Regional Long Term Health Care Center, where he passed away at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 2 days.

He is survived by his four children: Sayna Gregg of Winner, SD; Jamin Hartland (Sarah) of Rapid City, SD; Jessa Ellendorf (Gabriel) and great-grandson Zylias and bonus child, Andrew Hoffman, of White River, SD; Jadyn Gregg of Rapid City, SD; Landi Sinkler (Cory) Jordan of Hopkins, MN; Danica Stiehl (Shane) great-grandsons Tayson, Teegan and Traxon of Pierre, SD; Thayne and daughter Shaneyl Rowe (Ryan) great-grandson Kane and great-granddaughter Wren of Winner, SD & Chesney (Dalton) Leiferman & great grandson Hoyt of Winner, SD; Brekkyn Nagel of Sioux Falls, SD; Tayla Nagel of Winner, SD; Rhett (Wendy) daughter Kennedy Neidan of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Levicy and son Larkin of Winner, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Leah Nagel; his sister Darlene Ducheneaux; brothers: Wayne and Wesley Nagel and daughter Kara Ann.
