Dr. Kristie Storms, 34, of Lubbock, Texas formerly of Millboro, SD passed away at her home in Lubbock, TX on Saturday, August 29 ^th , 2020.  Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12 ^th , 2020 at 10:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner.  Burial will follow in the Saint Boniface Cemetery in Clearfield, SD.  A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11 ^th , from 2-6:00PM at the Saint Mary's Hall in Winner, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00PM.

Kristie Lea Storms, PhD was born September 19, 1985 in Valentine, NE to Dean and Nancy (Ripp) Storms. She was a happy and joyful little girl and she stayed that way throughout her life.  Her sister Elizabeth joined the family in 1987 to make it complete.

She attended Beaver Creek Rural School from kindergarten to 8 ^th grade, and then attended Winner High School, graduating in 2004. Kristie was involved in FCCLA, the drama club, choir, CCD and 4-H.

After graduation she attended South Dakota State University and was a faithful Jackrabbit. She was actively involved in Collegiate 4-H and worked for the South Dakota 4-H Foundation.  She met her lifelong friend, Hannah Englin, in Brookings and she had so many wonderful adventures with the Englin family.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) from South Dakota State University in 2008, she started teaching FCS and Culinary Arts to South Dakota high school students in the Ethan, Watertown and Webster communities. She was awarded New Teacher of the Year in 2011 through the South Dakota Association of Career & Technical Education.  While teaching, she continued to further her education at Northern State University, graduating with a Master of Science in teaching and learning in 2015. That same year, she received a fellowship from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX to obtain a doctoral degree in Family Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE).  While working on her doctorate she accepted a FCS/Culinary Arts teaching position at the Monterey High School in Lubbock until 2018. She enjoyed teaching the students there and she had students, chefs, butchers and grocers excited to help feed the hungry through the Lubbock Street Gourmet food truck. Her interest in feeding people and teaching also branched into the Market Street/United Student Partnership, Southern Plains Hunger Solutions, and the Lubbock Dream Center. She spent the last two years teaching as an Assistant Professor of Practice and the FCSE Student Teacher Coordinator at Texas Tech University, where Kristie made a lasting impact on her students and the Family and Consumer Sciences profession.

Kristie met Max Walker in the summer of 2019 when she swept right.  They had a loving, fun relationship that was cut way too short. We are happy that she found such a caring person to call her boyfriend.

Aside from teaching and serving others, Kristie enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and collecting buttons for her business, Knotty Blossoms and collecting antiques. She also loved traveling to new places to explore their food, scenery and culture, and often would travel to watch her favorite Texas country artist live. Lastly, she adored being an aunt to her two nephews. Though our time was too short, we are lucky to have known such an adventurous loving caring person who had a way of making everyone feel special.

Kristie is survived by her Father & Mother, Dean & Nancy Storms. Her sister, Elizabeth (Ethan) Reed and twin nephews, Elliott & Edison and boyfriend Max Walker.  Grandmother Ruth (Kriha) Ripp, Aunt & Uncles: Elaine Storms, Mike & Carlyn Storms, Mary & Mike Marso, Ellen Froning, Marilyn Schmaljohn, Barb Derby, Keith & Mary Ripp, Connie & Leon Storms, Greg Bowman and Roxanne Aistrope. Great Aunts: Norma Storms, Leora Emme, Joann Kriha and Betty (Elizabeth) Paitz.  So many loving and caring cousins, and friends that are devastated at her loss.
