June Nelson, age 83, of Winner, passed away on June 20, 2017 at the Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 26, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Winner. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Winner.

J une Elaine (Rehak) Nelson was born on June 10, 1934 to Anton and Ila (Kappelman) Rehak in Winner, South Dakota. She was the oldest of three daughters.  June peacefully entered Heaven to be reunited with her husband on Tuesday, June 20th after a brief stay at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  June attended school in Winner and graduated from Winner High School where she was a National Honor Society member.  She began her working career at Miller Brother's Auto as a secretary.  Over the years, she was also employed at Kaplan Tire, then transitioned to Lenker's Real Estate and Insurance Agency which later became O'Bryan Agency.  June was employed there until her retirement.  June also helped to keep books at her son Doug's store (Nelson's Electronics) from it's opening in 1979 through 2009.

She was united in marriage to Duane D. Nelson on December 15, 1953 at the Winner Christian Church.  To this union, eight children were born.  Duane and June started their farm life together south of Winner, then moved north of town, purchasing land where the current family farm remains.  June spent the last two years living with her daughter Jennifer in Sioux Falls where she was surrounded by family and compassionate caregivers.

Raising children on the farm, June and Duane instilled a strong work ethic with high morals and standards.  Farm life was not always easy, but they made sure family came first.  Even though June was busy working in town and helping Duane on the farm, she made sure their children were active in community and school activities.   In the evening, June enjoyed calling neighbors of Brunson Township to share their family news for the Winner Advocate.

One of June's life long pleasures was teaching Sunday School at the Winner United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She loved teaching the little ones about Jesus.

June was a tremendous cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends as they gathered around the kitchen table sharing great conversation.

October 2009, daughter Jennifer took June on an adventure that included her first plane ride at the age of 75 to visit her German daughter Silke Wenzel (foreign exchange student 1991-1992) and family in Berlin, Germany.
