Judy Vergin, 86, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 at the Winner Regional Hospital in Winner, SD. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 11:00AM at the Our Father Lutheran Church in Rockford, MN. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford, MN.

Judy Ann (Miller) Vergin was born on December 8th, 1936 in Garretson SD to Pauline and Kenneth Miller. She spent her early childhood in Maple Plain, MN. She was an only child but grew up with cousins Gary and Nancy Nelson. At the age of 12, her mother married Clifford Iverslie. They lived in Delano, MN. She graduated from Delano High School and then attended St. Cloud State University graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Her first teaching job was 3rd grade in Spring Creek. Judy met the love of her life Daryl at Media Ballroom. They were married June 18th, 1960. Judy and Daryl had three daughters, Shawn, Shannon, and Layne. They moved to Bloomington, MN. Judy taught for 27 years for the Bloomington schools and many of years at Portland Jr. High. A few years after Daryl passed away she moved to Real Life of Bloomington, where she met many great friends while living there. In May of 2021, she lost the ability to walk and moved to Whitefish at the Lakes in Crosslake, MN. Again, she was blessed with many new friends. In July of 2023, Judy moved to Winner, SD Long Term Care. On September 23rd, 2023 Judy left this world to join her heavenly family at the age of 86.

Judy loved her family and extended family. Her pride and joy were her 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was an excellent knitter, making many baby blankets, sweaters, and more. She sewed many of her girls' clothes and especially loved making them matching dresses. Later in life she took up needle point and made many beautiful Christmas stockings, ornaments, and pictures. She was truly a talented woman.

Judy was a woman of great faith. She enjoyed Bible Studies, going to church, and singing hymns. Judy loved traveling. She loved her trips to Hawaii and Norway with her husband. Judy took many senior bus trips with her friend Betty. She always took a yearly ski trip with a dear group of friends but never skied a day in her life. She also loved play cards, and was in 500 and bridge groups. During the summer you could always catch a game of dominos being played in her cabin. Judy was also an avid reader. She passed her love of reading to her grandkids. During the summer when she took some of the older grandkids for time with her at the lake, there was always a trip to the bookstore where many books were bought.

Besides family, Judy loved the cabin in Northern Minnesota. She didn't like the water, but loved being at the cabin on the lake. Judy moved north in the summers with her daughters. She continued to spend summers at the cabin after the girls were grown. Judy had a lifetime of friends who were like family to her there.

She will be greatly missed by daughters: Shawn (Russ) Soles of Winner SD, Shannon (Bryce) Olson of Pequot Lakes, MN, Layne (Jim) Schryver of Bloomington, MN. Ten grandchildren including: Kelsey Soles, Trevor Gordon, Whitney Soles, Madison (Justin) Kleber, Brittney (Josh) Kugler, Logan Soles, Shelby Perry, Lesley (Gene) Rygaard, Jackson Schryver, and Shelia Schryver. Seven great grandchildren: Jocelyn and Jemma (Whitney), Adelyn (Logan), Brynnlee, Karson, and Jayden (Madison), and McKinley (Lesley).

Preceded in death by: husband Daryl Vergin, parents Pauline and Clifford Iverslie, Kenneth Miller, brother-in-laws Duane Vergin and Mike Dolan, and sister-in-law Yvonne Dolan.
