Joshua Anthony Meyer September 26, 1975 – May 14, 2025

Joshua Anthony Meyer was born on September 26, 1975, in Gregory, South Dakota, the son of Sam and Debbie Meyer. He passed away at his home in Kenai, Alaska, on May 14, 2025, at the age of 49.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Josh's 50th birthday — September 26, 2025 at 10:30 AM, at the Methodist Church in Winner, South Dakota.  A visitation will be held be held one hour prior to the Celebration of Life service.

The family will host a luncheon at The Holiday Inn Express in Winner following the service.

Josh spent his early childhood in Jamul, California, and Winner, South Dakota, before the family moved to Pierre in 1992. He became actively involved at Riggs High School and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing, hunting, and especially the annual family pheasant hunt and reunion at the Meyer farm near Ideal—a cherished tradition.

In his early adult years, Josh worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and Brosz Engineering in the Pierre area. Throughout his life, he formed deep, lasting friendships with those he worked alongside. Most recently, Josh worked in concrete construction, where his employer described him not only as his best employee, but also one of his closest friends—a sentiment echoed by many who knew him. Josh's warmth, laughter, love, and optimism were infectious. He was a good friend to almost everyone he met.

In 2002, Josh moved to Anchor Point, Alaska, where he continued working in various construction roles. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, known for his strong work ethic and his ability to find artistry and creativity in whatever he did.

Josh eventually settled in Kenai, Alaska, where he met his partner, Vesta Parks. In 2023, their son, Tristan Anthony, was born—an event that brought Josh immense joy and pride. Becoming a father was one of the greatest honors of his life. His eyes would light up whenever he spoke about Tristan, who was the center of his world.

Josh was a loving son, brother, partner, and father. His big heart, generous spirit, and enduring friendships were a testament to the kind of man he was.

He is survived by his parents, Sam and Libby Meyer of New Braunfels, TX, Debbie Hiles of Rapid City, SD and Ellen Dahl Walker of Pierre, SD; his son Tristan Anthony (age 2); his partner Vesta Parks of Kenai, AK; and his sisters: Heather Potter of Lyman, WY, Heidi (Todd) Novotny of Pierre, SD, Audra (Jim) Cardwell of Pierre, SD, Lynsey (Darin) Anderson of Pierre, SD,

Lisa (Kim) Ehrlich of Granite Shoals, TX, and Lori Gordon of Galena, MD, plus many loving nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his uncle's: John Meyer (Barb) of Winner, Steve Meyer (Tammy) of Winner, Dr. Phil Meyer (Cindy) of Pierre, and Danny Hiles (Alexis) of Whitewood, SD; His aunts Rosemary McHugh (Edward) of Lake Zurich, IL, Theresa Kulbel (Dick) of Yankton, Kathleen McKean (Rich) of Bayard, NE, Bernadette Nelson (David) of Platte, Clarice Forgey (Neil) of Lance Creek, WY, Loretta Meyer Furrey (Dr Vincent) of Cottonwood, AZ and Diana Farmer (Kevin) of Spearfish, SD, plus many cherished cousins who loved him dearly.  Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents: Charley and Virginia Meyer, Don and Donna Hiles, and Jimmie and Mildred Dahl.
