John Mayes, 56, of Winner, SD passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his home in Winner, SD. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 7 ^th , 2019 at 2:00PM at the First Christian Church in Winner. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.

John Amos Mayes was born May 21, 1962 in Winner, South Dakota to George and Donna Mayes.  He grew up on the family farm in Ideal South Dakota.  He spent many of his childhood hours playing sports, basketball, baseball and football.  He also participated in 4-H, participating in the annual horse show, rodeo and fair days.  He graduated from Winner High School in 1980.

After graduation, John worked construction, then worked at Al's Lockers for many years and later at the Winner Food Center. In later years, he was a farm laborer in the Witten area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Donna Mayes, grandparents George and Mable Mayes and Amos and Mabel Bailey, brother Tom Mayes and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his brothers Fred Mayes, Reliance South Dakota, Don (Cathy) Mayes, Winner South Dakota, sisters Carol (Wayne) Cooper, Spokane Washington, Maxine (Jim) Fisher, Winner South Dakota, Jo Ann (Myron) Giddings, Aurora Colorado,  Amy Duxbury Huron South Dakota, sister in law Lauren Mayes, Dallas South Dakota, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
