John Jones, 88, of Winner, SD passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Avera Rosebud Country Care in Gregory, SD. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery in Winner, SD. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 9-11AM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD.
John was born on February 8th, 1930, in Dixon, SD, to Clyde and Leona (Grossenburg) Jones.
John grew up in rural Dixon, SD and graduated from Winner High School in 1947. John married Janice Rae Lambing on September 8, 1952. John served in the US Army during the Korean War from 2-16-1954 until he received an honorable discharge on 2-23-1956.
John and Janice farmed the family farm and raised three children (Greg, Kevin, Crystal) until Janice's passing on January 21, 1994. John remained on the farm and married Mary Ann Abourezk on 10-14-1995. Thereafter, they retired and moved to Winner and enjoyed time in Arizona while health permitted. Mary Jones passed away on August 2, 2012.
John is survived by his three children; Greg (Marcy) Jones; Kevin (Deva) Jones; and Crystal Jones. His grandchildren: Heather Dubro; Nicholas Marek; Darcie Reichert; Jessica Jones; Brady Jones; and Aaron Jones. As well as numerous loving great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by Janice Jones, Mary Jones, one brother, two sisters, an infant granddaughter and great grandson.
A very special thank you to Brian Snow, John's nephew, for being such a great caretaker, chief cook, bottle washer, mechanic, and fixer for the past few years.
