JoAnn Hofeldt, 82, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Winner Regional Long-Term Care Facility in Winner, SD.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13 ^th , 2019 at 10:30AM at the United Methodist Church in Winner.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 from 6-7PM at the United Methodist Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.

JoAnn was born June 7, 1936 in Winner, SD to G. Rollin and Roberta (Todd) Key.  When she was seven years old, she lost an eye in a BB gun accident.  Despite that, she was active all her life.  In school, she participated in chorus and played the drums in the band.  She was a representative to Girls State, a member of the National Honors Society, and an Honored Queen of Winner's Job's Daughters.  She graduated from Winner High School in 1954.

Following graduation, JoAnn was united in marriage to Lee Hofeldt on December 29, 1954.  They moved to Texas for a short time while Lee was with the military.  Once they returned to the area, they resided in Winner before later moving to Millboro.  JoAnn was employed early on as a bookkeeper for Western Motors, but her primary occupations were farm wife and mother, raising Randy, Jim, Rodney "Todd", Julie and Larry.  When her health began to fail, she moved back into Winner, then to Elder Inn, and finally to the Winner Nursing Home in 2017.

JoAnn was a very active and supportive member of the United Church of Christ in Millboro, where she taught Sunday School and served on the church board.  She also belonged to the auxiliaries of the American Legion and the Disable American Veterans, as well as the extension club.

Living 28 miles from town, she spent many hours on the road running for parts and supplies and this is how she acquired her CB handle, "The Roadrunner".  In her free time, she enjoyed sewing western shirts, denim quilts, and doing embroidery and fondly remembered years of taking the old school bus to the Black Hills for family vacations.  Memorably, JoAnn was part of the Millboro Walking Women in the early 1960s.  As her sight diminished, she began making tie-blankets for many family members and friends.

JoAnn is survived by her children, Randy (Roberta) Hofeldt, Pierre, SD, Jim (Brenda) Hofeldt, Millboro, SD, Todd (Gwen) Hofeldt, Millboro, SD, Julie (Glen) Kahler, Colome, SD, and Larry (Marva) Hofeldt, Winner, SD, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a sister Jackie Stone, Winner, SD, sister-in-law June Freilinger,  Monona, IA, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Lee in 2003, her parents, brother Robert (Jeanette), sister Mary (John) "Bing" Pospisil, brothers-in-law Jack Stone, Loren Hofeldt and Ron Freilinger, and Grandson-in-law Chase Novotny.
