JoAnn Carpenter, 96, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, October 30 th , 2021 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Center in Winner, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 3 rd , 2021 at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner, SD. Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 3 rd , 2021 at 2:30PM at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour, SD. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 2 nd , 2021 from 6-7PM with a 7PM Rosary.
JoAnn (Lammers) Carpenter, born July 27th, 1925 passed away on October 30th, 2021. She was married to Vernon Carpenter. They shared 66 years of marriage until Vernon's death on 11/24/19. Born near Hartington, Nebraska, she was the daughter of John Lammers and Ella (Wiebelhaus) Lammers. She attended Mt. Marty college, in Yankton, South Dakota then worked as a keypunch operator in Omaha, NE for the Union Pacific Railroad prior to her marrying Vernon on August 22, 1953. A devoted wife and mother, she later worked as a teachers aide in the Armour, SD elementary school system.
JoAnn was a great cook and baker, essentially never serving a meal without dessert. She enjoyed cross-stitch, ceramics, and making her children and grandchildren their favorite recipes. She was also a devout Catholic active in Armour's St. Paul the Apostle church, an avid reader who volunteered at the local library and a kind hearted, well respected woman in her community.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Carpenter (Dan Flynn), Winner, SD, her son Mark, Mill Spring, NC, her grandchildren Grant (Erin) Flynn, Tristan and Sean, Pierre, SD, Katie (Jessie) Harris, Ayden, Lucia, Jesse, Mylah, Telon, Tobias, and Isreal, Winner, SD, and Jamie Flynn and Shyne, Tucson, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Jerome Lammers and Rosemary "Babe", (Lammers) Kohls.
