Jeannette Long, age 85, of Winner, passed away on December 2, 2017 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM  Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Jeannette Long was born south of Winner on June 1, 1932 to Dale and Marcella (Kavanaugh) Likens.  She went to country school through 8th grade then attended Winner High School graduating in 1951.  On December 3rd 1951 she was united in marriage to Alvin "Pete" Long.  To this union 2 daughters Lynette and Lori were born.

The day she turned 17 she went to work for the telephone company as an operator, which she continued after graduation and after she and Pete were married.  When Pete was in the Navy she would live in California when the ship was in port.  When Pete was discharged they moved back to South Dakota for good.

In 1979 she went to work for the Tripp County Sheriff as a dispatcher.  In 1984 she switched to secretary/dispatcher until 2013.  A job she loved as there is nothing better than being "in the know".  She also spent many hours collecting names for the Tripp County Veterans Monument.

Jeannette said Pete was the best thing that ever happened to her.  Pete passed away on August 18, 2015.  She hoped he would wait just beyond the moon, the wait is now over.

Jeannette is survived by her daughters Lynette Tjeerdsma of Springfield, SD, Lori (Tad) Vosika of Winner, SD, grandchildren Bobbi Tjeerdsma of Sioux Falls, SD, Kyle (Jamie) Tjeerdsma of Wagner, SD, Loni Vosika (Kyle Cummings) Buffalo, WY, great-grandchildren: Gavin, Mason, Caden Tjeerdsma of Wagner, SD and a host of nieces and nephews.
