Obituary

Harry Jansen, 86, of Mission, SD passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 near his home in Mission, SD. Harry was born May 14, 1928 to John D. and Mary Delila (Lazotte) Jansen in Mosher, SD. He graduated from high school in Mission in 1946. He joined the service November 22, 1950 and was discharged August 23, 1952. Through the years we heard many stories about his time in Korea, but never about the bad stuff, only about the many guys he met and friends he made. Harry married Marjorie Totton on May 22, 1952. He farmed with his dad for a while before moving to Mosher where he had a service station. They moved to Carter in 1957 where he opened another service station. He became postmaster on May 7, 1959 and did both until November 21, 1985, when they closed the Carter post office. He was transferred to the Reliance post office where he was postmaster for 6 years. He retired with 32 years of postal service. They moved to Presho. Harry and Marjorie moved to Mission in 2003, where he continued to tinker with things in his small shed, made Joker boards, worked at the Presho and Winner Sale Barn, and continued to be Mr. Fix-it. Harry and Marjorie began square dancing in 1966 and held every office over the years with the local and state. He was a member of the White River Frontier Twirlers, American Legion, and the United Methodist church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Teddy, sisters Florence and her husband Roy Merchan and Elizabeth (Betty) and her husband Elivs Hansen., sister-in-law Violet Jansen, and a niece, Debra Kay Jansen. Those blessed to share his life was his wife of 62 years, Marjorie; sons Keith (Punk) and his wife Vicki, Kenny and Lisa Provancial and daughter Kathy and husband Rory; grandchildren Taryn (Dan) Krause, Kayley Jansen, Matthew Klein, Elizabeth Klein, Jesse (Jennifer) Jansen, Krystine (Ethan) Ernest and Kylee Jansen; great-grandchildren Bentley Krause and Jaya Ernest; brothers George Jansen and Jack (Ruby) Jansen; and many nieces and nephews.
