Glenn Layh, 58, of Winner, SD passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner, SD. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 6-7PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 7:00PM.  A burial will be at a later date at the Winner City Cemetery.

Glenn was born on November 7, 1959 in Gregory, SD to Lyle and Shirley (Parker) Layh as the fifth of their six children, where he grew up and worked on the family farm. Then at 16, Glenn first started driving truck as a summer and part time job before graduating from Gregory High School in 1978. After high school graduation, he began driving for Bonenberger Trucking out of Basset, NE. After a few years working in Basset, Glenn returned to the family farm and began working for the Cenex in Gregory. Finally, in 1982, Glenn found what would be his final job driving truck as an independent owner-operator for Kaiser Trucking in Winner, SD. He would go on to buy and maintain eleven different trucks - mainly Peterbilt's, a particular favorite of Glenn's - while driving for Roger Kaiser for 36 years. Throughout those 36 years with Kaiser Trucking, he was not only able to create a stable business for his family, but also develop a lifetime of friendships.

Glenn was united in marriage to Darlene (Hicks) on November 17th, 1984 in Gregory, SD.  Glenn and Darlene spent their next 34 years together raising their two sons, Tyler & Trevor, which included them enjoying a particular favorite of theirs, taking in many Winner sports events that their boys were involved in. Later, Glenn and Darlene spent their time relishing a new role as grandparents to their four granddaughters.

In early 2016, Glenn was diagnosed with the blood disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which later developed into acute myeloid leukemia in February 2017. After a courageous fight with the cancer, including a bone marrow transplant in May 2017, Glenn succumbed to complications from the disease.

Glenn is survived by his wife Darlene; two children; Tyler (Desiree) of Mitchell, SD and their daughters Charlotte and Vienna, Trevor (Haley) of Chaska, MN and their daughters Nora and Sloane; his mother Shirley Layh of Gregory, SD; two brothers: Craig (Jackie) Layh of Gregory, SD and Dean Layh of Denton, TX; three sisters: Kathy of Overland Park, KS; Cindy (Jeff) of Powell, WY; and Kristi (Victor) of Grand Forks, ND; as well as several aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Glenn is preceded in death by his father Lyle; paternal grandparents Bill and Frances Layh; maternal grandparents Otis and Kathryn Parker; Uncle Karl Leslie; Uncle Albert Nilles; nephew Shane; and great-niece Kennedy.
