Obituary

Emma Brandis 88, of White River, SD passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00pm at the United Methodist Church in White River, SD. Burial will follow in the White River Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 5-7PM at the Methodist Church in White River. Emma Mae Novey Brandis was born November 16, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the youngest of nine children of Joseph and Anna (Sindelar) Novey. She attended grades 1-8 at the Round-Up School near the family ranch north west of White River, SD. She worked at various jobs around White River for several years prior to marrying Edsel Delany, of this union one son James was born in November 1954 in Wyoming. The family then moved to Northern California for several years before she and Jim moved back to South Dakota. Following her move she worked in White River Cafes for many years. Emma enjoyed going shopping with her sisters and had a great love for animals. As a young girl, this love showed when she even had 2 coyote pups, Sissy and Tuffy. From wild to tame pets, she always had a dog or two, Louie, a pure Pomeranian came back with them from California and lived many years. Another notable pet was Mitsy, who was with her for many years also. Emma married Cecil Brandis on June 20, 1988 in New Castle, Wyoming. They enjoyed each others companionship, fishing and traveling to Washington and other destinations. Last year they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Emma is preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters: Annie, Helen, Rose, Alice and Clara and one brother Joe. She is survived by her husband Cecil and her son Jim and 2 sisters Mary and Ruth. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, friends, family and relatives.
