Edna Kartak, age 85, of Colome, passed away on September 26, 2017 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility. Edna was born on June 19, 1932 at her parent's home Martin and Olive (Keogh) Holden south of Colome. She was the middle child with two older sister and two younger sisters. The girls were raised to be hardworking and fun loving. These mischievous girls were usually up to something. Whatever one did not think of the others would. Edna's favorite childhood memories would be making homemade ice cream, going to Grandpa and Grandma Holden's every Sunday, and going to dances. Her Irish temper and stubbornness came from her father.

After graduation from Colome High School in 1950 she went to nursing school in Denver. After one year of nursing school she decided to come back home and attended Southern College in Springfield to become a teacher. Edna taught school for three years. She met the love of her life Lloyd at a dance in Wewela where he asked to take her home that night. They were married on October 17, 1956 at the Danton Catholic Church just up the road from where Lloyd lived. Lloyd and Edna lived on the Kartak homestead started by Lloyd's father John, and later bought it from Lloyd's mother Rosie. To this marriage 3 children were born Joanie, Lynn and Lori.

Edna loved being a wife and mother and worked very hard at both to provide a happy and loving home. She loved raising a BIG garden, canning, cleaning house, ironing, and helping with all the chores. Edna also liked to walk. You could always find her walking along the road to get her exercise. She especially loved having the grandkids at her house and they were always there a lot.  Edna made the best chocolate cake. Everybody always wanted her chocolate cake for any occasion. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and St. Isidore Catholic Church. Edna lost Lloyd to cancer in February 2006. Edna lived on the farm by herself until she moved to the Elder Inn in October of 2015. That is where she met good friend Rose Gran. They had good times talking about the good old days and spent hours walking the hallways and looking for doors where they could leave. Due to declining health Edna moved to the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility on July, 31, 2017, where she passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

She is survived by her children, Joanie, Lynn (DeAnna) and Lori (Jed) Sealey; her grandchildren  Jesse Sealey, Tanner (Candace) Sealey, Jay Tee (Janna) Sealey, Justin Steinke, Sammy (Tyler) Walker, Luke (Tanae) Kartak, Newley Kartak, Ben Kartak, and Becca Kartak; sisters Joyce Steffen, Luella Marsh and Sharon Dawson and sister-in-law Louise DeMers; along with many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
