Obituary

Dorothy Meyer, 93, of Carter, SD passed away at her home near Carter, SD on Friday, April 15, 2016.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9:30AM at the Carter Gospel Fellowship Church in Carter, SD.  Burial will follow in the Winner, City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 5-7:00PM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD.

Dorothy was born on September 3, 1922 to Alden and Sylvia Loomis in Wakita, OK. She graduated from school in Alton, KS in 1941 and followed her father's footsteps in the Educational field. She attended Kansas State University where she met Lloyd.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Meyer on April 18, 1947. They went to South Carolina to attended Colombia Bible College. The two oldest children, David and Daniel, were born there. They moved to Bean Station, Tennessee to serve with a children's mission. The third son, Timothy, was born there. After moving to Tripp County in 1950 she taught at several country schools then in Winner (5th Grade) until retirement May 20, 1987. She belonged to the Reading Club, Centennial Quilt Guild, Golden Rod Extension Club, and Carter Gospel Church.

Dorothy and Lloyd sang at many weddings and funerals. She loved to sing out of the hymnal as long as she was able. Her hobbies were gardening, quilting, and planting flowers.

Her health declined after her husband passed away. Her last years were spent at home with family present.

Survivors include her children: David (Judy) of Altoona, IA; Daniel (Brenda) of Cheyanne, WY; Timothy (Anita) of Wasilla, AK; Andrew (Linda) of Carter, SD; Mark (Cynthia) of Tenakee Springs, AK; 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews; one sister, Ruth Ann Roepke, KS and one brother, Alden Loomis, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, one sister Marjorie Dubert, one sister-in-law Ruth Mary Loomis, and one brother-in-law Don Roepke.
