Obituary

Dorothy Mae Faubion, 94, of Winner, SD passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 1:00pm at the United Methodist Church in Winner. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held two and a half hours prior to funeral service. Dorothy Mae (Stoltenberg) Faubion was born on May 9, 1920 to Ulrich (Ole) and Alva (Koupal) Stoltenberg at Butte, Nebraska and passed away on Friday, January 2 at Winner Regional Long Term Care at the age of 94. At an early age the Stoltenbergs moved to a farm near Valentine, NE where Dorothy attended grade school. In the 30's they moved to a farm north of Millboro. Dorothy graduated from Millboro High School in 1940. While living there she met and married Richard (Dick) Faubion on May 28, 1940. They moved to Kimberly, ID for a couple years but returned to Millboro to help with the family grocery store. Together they started and operated the Millboro Garage & Gas Station. To this union two children were born, Donna and Richard (Rick). Over the years Dorothy learned to decorate cakes and she made many of the neighborhood childrens wedding cake and many anniversary cakes. She wrote the "society news" for the Winner Advocate for the Millboro area. While in Millboro Dorothy was a member of the Millboro Congregational Church, Dorcas Society and Millboro Extension Club. In the 60's Dorothy was one of the Millboro Six that decided they should walk from Millboro to Winner. As the "small town" gas station went by the way-side Dick and Dorothy moved to Winner in 1972. Dick was a janitor at the Winner High School for many years and Dorothy was a cook. She cooked at the original Nursing Home for a short time and then went to cook at what was then known as the "Husky House Café/Truckstop for many years. There was always Dorothy's homemade pies and cookies to choose from. She would treat her children and grand-children to many pans of "Gooey Rolls", and meals of Beef and Noodles or Cream Chicken on Biscuits. While living in Millboro mom always had a vegetable and flower garden. Mom enjoyed her garden, crocheting and watching Twins baseball. Dick passed away in November 1995 and Dorothy continued to live in their home. In December 2005 she moved into the Elder Inn and in September 2007 to the Long Term Care until her passing. Dorothy is survived by her children Donna (Dennis) Howland, step-granddaughter Melanie (John) Richards and children Cody and Samantha and step-great grandson, Brentlee Richards Rick (Diane) and children Brady and (special friend) Jena, Chris and fiancé Jordan, Heather (Lane) Massingale and daughter Avery; Lindsay and (special friend) Anthony). Sister-in-law, Edna Lawler, of Valentine, NE and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, sister and brother-in-law Ethel (Clarence) Mooney, nephew, Jim Mooney; brother and sister-in-law Donald (Beth) Stoltenberg and nephew Roy Stoltenberg and two infant sisters.
