Obituary

Doris W. Viedt, 97, Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Winner Regional Healthcare Center, Winner. "Nonie" as she was known to friends was born December 16, 1916 in Lockport, New York. She was the oldest of three children born to Martin and Marie (Evans) Viedt. At the age of 12 Nonie came to Winner with her family. After graduation from Winner High School, Nonie attended Clarkson Hospital, Omaha to earn her nursing degree. Nonie's career choice was the military. She served in the Regular Army for 18 years including duty during World War II and the Korean Conflict. She rose to the rank of Major. During this time Nonie lived in or visited 35 different countries. After graduating from the Medical Field Service School she served as Assistant Chief Nurse. A brain tumor cut short her military service. She was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. She served as treasurer and altar guild member for many, many years. For 14 years, Nonie has volunteered at the local Thrift Store and Food Pantry. She was a resident at Golden Prairie Manor for the past seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ben and Bob. She is survived by her nieces: Leslie Hysell, Melodie Harris, Nanette Parker and Bobbi Viedt.
