Doris Jean Martinez, 52, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility.  Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 10:30AM at the Colome City Cemetery in Colome, SD.

Doris was born September 8th, 1969, along with her twin brother John, to Belva Marie (Afraid of Hawk) and Lorenzo Martinez in Pine Ridge, SD.

Doris made Winner her home in the spring of 2005.  Upon moving to Winner, Doris began working at the Warrior Inn Motel as a housekeeper.  This is where she met her dear friend Jan who later became her guardian but, more importantly, her friend.  Doris became part of Jan's family which includes Jan's husband Doug and their dog "Ollie" who Doris loved to feed French fries.

Doris also worked at the Super 8 Motel with Jan and later worked at the Winner Regional Health Care Center, the Athletic Club, the Fire Hall, and the Catholic Church.  Making each place sparkle and shine.

Anyone who knew Doris knew her love and talent for drawing.  Doris was a prolific artist frequently drawing horses and other nature scenes.  Within minutes, she would pencil the most beautiful horses one could imagine.  She drew every day as this was her passion.  She frequently drew for Pizza Hut family night and shared her drawings with children.  If you met Doris, whether she knew you or not, you received a drawing.  She won several different art contests through out the years.  In 2008, she was invited to the Dare to Dream conference held in Pierre, SD.  During this conference she, along with other South Dakota artists, displayed their work.  Her latest contest was in 2020 through Project Expression with Foothold Technology.  She won $100.00 and was ready to shop.

When Doris was younger, she enjoyed basketball, bowling, dancing, camping, and riding horses.  She also enjoyed fishing, swimming, and riding bikes.  She loved frequenting the movie theater, unsure if it was the movies or popcorn she enjoyed more.

Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She will be especially missed by her Community Connections friends and family.  Doris is survived by her twin brother, John, her family, Jan, Doug and Ollie and many other foster siblings.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents.
