Donna (Eggers) Sealey, 93, of Colome, SD passed away on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at the Platte Care Center Avera in Platte, SD.  Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:30AM at the St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome, SD.  Burial will follow in the Colome City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to service with a rosary will begin at 10:00AM

Donna Jean (Eggers) Sealey was born on September 8, 1930, the only child of Henry and Eileen (Jacobs) Eggers.  She grew up on a farm north of Corisca.

Donna attended Corisca High School graduating in 1948 where she excelled in vocal music and declam.  A yearbook quote described her as "a gal with many talents and an all-around good friend".  She attended Dakota Wesleyan where she earned her two-year teaching degree in 1950.  She then accepted a teaching position with the Colome School where she taught a combination third and fourth grade.  She then left and taught for one year in Wagner.

On July 6, 1954 Donna was united in marriage to Buck Sealey making their home on a farm south of Colome.  To this union three sons were born:  Glenn, Jerry, and Michael.  Donna was a stay-at home mom until Glenn was a first grader when she returned to the classroom accepting a fifth and sixth grade combination glass.  Eventually this would involve teaching her own sons!  Donna was a strict teacher wanting all her students to excel in their education.

For several summers Donna would take Glenn and Jerry to Mitchell to stay with Grandma Eggers while she attended classes at Dakota Wesleyan to keep her two-year teaching certificate.  In 1972 she became a full-time teacher's aide and later a Title One reading teacher until her retirement in 1987 from the Colome School District.

The couple resided on the farm south of Colome until 1978 when they moved to town.

Donna was a long-time member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.  She received her 50-year Catholic Daughter membership pin from Court St. Maria Goretti.  Donna held several local offices including regent along with State 2nd vice regent.

The Catholic faith was very important to Donna with a devotion to the Rosary.  Her devotion also carried over to the church yard taking pride in planting flowers, tending to them during the summer months, and raking endless pine needles.  She spent countless hours cleaning the church from top to bottom.

Donna is survived by her sons, Glenn (Cindy) and Jerry (Lori) all of Colome.  She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Eileen, husband Buck, son Michael, and grandson Tanner.
