Dennis Phillips, 78, of Winner, SD passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility in Winner, SD. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 2:00PM at the Winner Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service.
Dennis Ralph Phillips, born June 14 1946 to Ralph and Elsie (Brickman) in Winner SD. In his childhood days, he grew up on grandpa and ma Phillips farm. He went to West banner grade school until 1958 when he moved off the farm to Winner where he finished grade school and high school. He graduated in 1964. Dennis was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He married his childhood sweetheart Carol McIntosh on February 20th 1965- they were married for 59 years. To this union one son was born on December 7th 1965- Russell Todd.
He worked at Pharris Bakery in his high school years. He had also worked for Darrell Shippy at Winner Welding in 1964-1967- then went to work for John Carlson Construction until 1970- Soon after Dennis went into partnership with Pat Murphy where they ran Car Care Center in the old Gus stop and bought Pat out in 1973. When they moved the shop to the old Miller Bros building till 1991. Dennis then bought Storms Liquor store, which he named Rosco's Korner, which he ran until he sold it in 2017- when he retired.
Dennis's Hobbies included working on racecars, with his son and grandson's pit crew, and attending the races with them. Nascar racing and going to some of the races in Vegas and Michigan. He enjoyed trap shooting in winner and various other towns where he won some trophies. Dennis was also a volunteer fireman at the Winner Fire Department for 20 years.
Dennis is survived by his wife Carol, sister Charlotte (Pat) Moses, of Rapid City. Brother Leo Kaiser of Council Bluffs Iowa. Daughter in-law Lorna Phillips of Winner. granddaughter Megan (Mike) Cahoy of Colome. Grandson Cole (Taylor) Phillips of Whitewood. Great grandchildren Maycee and Maxton of Colome. Brother-in-law William (Delinda) McIntosh of Sioux City Iowa. Marvin (Karen) McIntosh of Iona SD. Sister-in-law Mary McIntosh of Norfolk Nebraska. And many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Ralph-Elsie Phillips. Son Russell Todd Phillips. Father-in-law Riley, and mother-in-law Rose McIntosh. Brother-In-law Robert McIntosh, and Donald McIntosh.
