Darrell Lee Meiners, 70, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Winner Regional Health Care Center in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Baptist Church in Winner with a prayer service beginning at 7:30pm. Darrell Meiners was born on February 23, 1944 in Winner, South Dakota. Darrell grew up and was raised in Tripp County. During high school Darrell worked for his Aunt and Uncle Albert and Idie Vogt and graduated in 1962. He lettered in football and track, running in the Howard Wood Relays for 2 years. Darrell also enjoyed baseball, playing left field for the TMT league. Darrell worked as a Parts Man at Motor Equipment for 12 years. Darrell joined the Winner Volunteer Fire Department in 1967 and served faithfully for 32 years with 6 years as Fire Chief. In 1974 he was asked to run for Tripp County Sheriff, he was elected and had a 16 year career. He served as Todd County Sheriff for 8 of those years combining the duties for 2 counties. Darrell and Driel were married at the Baptist Church in 1963 and happily enjoyed 51 years together. They were blessed with 4 children and 9 grandchildren, Tim & Phyllis Meiners, and children Ashley, Alex and Aryn; Tom & Cheril Meiners and children William and Kristal Smith; Stacey (Meiners) Thompson and son Gage; Francie (Meiners) Leiran and children Morgan, Trinity and Isabelle. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Henry and LaVerna Meiners and older brother Larry. Darrell is survived by his wife Driel, 4 children, 9 grandchildren, younger brother Bob and his wife Connie, 4 nephews: Scott Meiners and family, Kelly Meiners and family, Kevin Meiners and family, Gregg Hanson and family, and 2 nieces Shawn Tuttle and Family, and Shendra Meiners and daughters.
