Charles Schwartz, 74, of Colome, SD passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome, SD. Burial will follow in the Colome Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome from 3:30-5:30pm with a prayer service beginning at 5:30pm. Chuck was born August 27, 1939 on the lawn of the Gregory Hospital to George and Ruth (Combs) Schwartz. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed May 8, 1954 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome. They lived at Dixon, SD until Chuck was 6 years old. They then moved to the farm northeast of Colome. Chuck attended country school at Gable School and graduated from Colome High School in 1958 and enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1958. He was stationed in Colorado, Oklahoma and spent 2 ½ years in Germany. Chuck married Shirley Giedd on February 23, 1963 at St. Isidore in Colome and to this union 3 daughters were born. Chuck was a member of St. Isidore Church and served on the church council. He also served on the Colome Township Board. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, playing cards and attending the activities of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters: Candy (Dave) Cahoy, Colome, SD, Kristi (Todd) Hauf, Colome, SD, Angel (Ryan) Wolff of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Michael, Robert and Collene Cahoy, Bryce and Brandon Hauf, Madison and Ella Wolff,step-grandson Josh (Melissa) Hauf, Conner, Aliviah and Kiley of Farmington, MO; brother James (Peggy) Schwartz, Gregory,SD, and sister Patricia Erickson, Mandan, ND and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard and sister-in-law Ruth.
