Charlene Tunnissen, 79, of Winner, SD passed away on Tuesday, July 17. 2018 at the Winner Regional Long-Term Care Center in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Church from 6-7PM with a rosary beginning at 7PM.
Charlene was born in Carter, SD on May 18th, 1939. was raised by her parents Alyce and Harold Canfield until her father passed away in 1944 when Charlene was 5 years old. Charlene continued to live with her mother in the Rapid City area.
Charlene later relocated to Winner, SD to be near her mother Alyce Svoboda and stepfather Edward Svoboda who raised her. She then met Donald Tunnissen and they wed on December 18, 1963. Together they raised ten children.
Charlene spent most of her adult life being a homemaker and helping on the farm. She had a special love for animals, especially her dogs Cuddle Bug and Sophie. She also enjoyed spending time with her friend Alma.
Charlene took great pleasure in reading and playing with her dogs and working in her yard. She had a love for antiquing and refinishing furniture. Charlene was also an amazing cook.
Charlene often spoke of childhood memories she had feeding the squirrels with her father Harold and going to church with her Grandma Stanton.
Charlene will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved her.
She is survived by her children Donald, Richard, Rickita Dice (Roger), Tanya Anderson (Gerald), Maria, John, Michael, Jeff (Kathi), and Jennifer (Mark) Kuehler, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren, & dear friend Alma McClanhan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, mother Alyce, her fathers Harold Canfield and Edward Svoboda, her son Randy Tunnissen, and a grandson James Michael Tunnissen.
