Obituary

Carol Wentz, 76, of Fairbury, NE formerly of Naper, NE passed away on November, 25 th , 2020 at the Bryan Medical Center-East in Lincoln, NE. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 1 st , 2020 at 2:00PM at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Naper, NE. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Family requests that masks be worn at the services.

Carol Ann (Dummer) Wentz was born October 16th, 1944, in Spencer, Nebraska to Herman and Lena Dummer. She was the sixth of nine children. She grew up on a farm in the Naper, Nebraska area and attended a country school until sixth grade when she started attending school in Naper. During her high school years, she was a cheerleader and worked at a grocery store in Jamison. After graduating from Naper Public Schools in 1962, she attended Bens Beauty School in Lincoln. Carol received her cosmetology license in December 1963.

Carol married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Eugene Wentz, on March 14th, 1964, in Naper, Nebraska. They moved to Yankton, South Dakota and returned to Naper and welcomed daughter, Renae. In 1965, they moved to Chadron, Nebraska, and Dennis attended Chadron State College. Carol worked at a beauty shop, café, and a retail store while in Chadron. In 1969, they moved to Benkelman, Nebraska. Carol worked as a grocery store meat wrapper and dental assistant. They welcomed daughter, Sheryl and son, Brett, while living in Benkelman. In 1973, they moved to Loup City, Nebraska, and raised their family there for thirteen years. Carol started working in the school system as a elementary school secretary and aide. When they moved to Wauneta in 1986, she was a para-professional at the Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools. She also worked as a dental assistant during the summers. In 1994, they moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, and Carol worked as a seamstress for a clothing manufacturer. They moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa, in 1998. Carol worked as a para-professional at the Coon Rapids/Bayard Public Schools until her retirement in 2006. Carol and Dennis spent fourteen years of retirement together in Burke, South Dakota; Yankton, South Dakota; St. Paul, Nebraska, and had just moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, in March 2020.

Carol enjoyed reading, western movies, and keeping in touch with family. She spent many years coon hunting with her husband. Carol attended many sports activities throughout her lifetime, supporting her husband, children and grandchildren. She always enjoyed visitors especially her children and their families.

Carol was preceeded in death by her parents Herman and Lena Dummer; brother DeWane Dummer; brother and sister-in-law Marlin and Zelda Dummer; brother-in-law Harold Ulmer; brother and sister-in-law Willard and Janice Dummer; sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Glen VanHouten.

Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dennis Wentz; sisters Nola Ulmer, Dorothy (Jerry) Heermann, Doris Olson; brother Harvey (Kathy) Dummer; sister-in-law Barbara Dummer; children Renae (Kirk) Christensen, Sheryl (Bryan) Einspahr, Brett (Rachel) Wentz; grandchildren and great grandchildren Brad (Nicole) Christensen and daughter Noelle, Ryan (Rachel) Christensen and sons Ezekiel and Elijah, Brianna  Einspahr, Brittyn Wentz, Logan Wentz; and many nieces and nephews.
