Calvin Henry DeSersa, 89 of Rosebud, SD passed away peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Human Services Center in Yankton, SD. Calvin was born to Hubert Charles & Elsie (Kills Plenty) on March 9, 1925 in Rosebud, SD. The first of 5 children. At age 18 he was inducted into the Army in Ft. Crook, NE. Calvin was part of the Headquarters Detachment, 555th Medical Battalion. He spent 1 years and 3 months in the Continental Service and 1 year and 5 months in the foreign service. Decorations and Citations received were Bronze Star Medal, GO 154 9th Inf., American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. His military qualifications were truck driver and mechanic badge. Calvin spent most of his life on the Rosebud Reservation. He made his living as a bodyman. He fixed many wrecked vehicles. His last years before retirement were working in housekeeping at the Rosebud Hospital. His many hobbies included traveling, playing his guitars, fishing and telling many stories. Calvin had 3 children, Betty, Darrell and Donna. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemae LaPointe, daughter Donna DeSersa and grandson Jeremy Kidwell. Calvin is survived by his daughter, Betty Farr of Winner and son Darrell (Barb) of Winner. 9 grandchildren: Michael Farr of Oklahoma City, Joe Farr of Dallas, TX, Melissa DeSersa of Casper, WY, Sarah DeSersa of Winner, Dustin (Tia) DeSersa of Winner, Megan DeSersa of Britton, SD, Rudy Ray Aargon of Las Cruces, Mexico, Branden (Jessica) of Clarksville, TN, Josh (Glendy) Kidwell of Dallas, TX, 12 great-grandchildren: Melody, Gage DeSersa, TayShaun Jones, Presley DeSersa, Keyleigh Stands, Jacob & Jocelyn DeSersa, Rudy Ray Jr., Ray Carlos, Jerimiah & Jaelynn Aargon, and Rayden Kidwell. 2 sisters Darlene Red Elk Meyer of Rosebud, Christina Ludwig of Mission and 1 brother Chuck (Norma) DeSersa of Rosebud and a host of many nieces and nephews.
