Bill Schwinler, 85, of Winner, SD passed away at his home near Winner, on Friday, February 1, 2019.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10:30AM at the Winner United Methodist Church in Winner, SD.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Monday, February 4 ^th , 2019 from 6-7PM at the United Methodist Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.

B illy (Bill) Dean Schwinler passed away peacefully in his home on February 1, 2019, at the age of 85. Bill was born on September 4, 1933, on a farm in Tripp County, the youngest of 9 children (8 boys and 1 girl) born to Phillip and Inez (Powell) Schwinler.

He attended school in Winner, SD, and graduated from Winner High School in 1951. Bill bought the home farm near Winner from his parents and spent his entire life there with the exception of his time on Active Duty in the U.S. Army from 1954-1955 where he served as a microwave radio repairman. He was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1961.

In 1956, he was united in marriage to Shirley Jordt who chased Bill for seven years before she caught him. They enjoyed 62 years of wedded "bliss". Together they raised two children, daughter Lisa and son Randy.

Bill's entire life was farming and his family. He was one of the first ranchers in Tripp County to raise Charolais cattle.  Being a farmer rancher, you have to be a mechanic, a vet, and a problem solver. He did all of those things well. Those who were close to him knew his quick wit and ornery streak. His many nieces and nephews referred to him as "the fun uncle". Bill was always taking them for rides on sleds, three-wheelers, and the "infamous" farm hand.  His determination on many projects proved to be a learning experience for many of us.  In particular, trying to help his grandson Kelly pull start his motorcycle with the four-wheeler proved to be interesting, to say the least. We've all shared many of these "learning experiences", and we are so thankful for each one. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa, but most of all, our friend.  He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter Lisa Schwinler, son Randy (Kim), grandchildren Katie Hurley, Ashton (Dan) Kusler, Nichelle Schwinler, Kelly Kidwiler, and Derek Schwinler, step-grandsons, OJ Faldalen and Randy Faldalen, 3 great-grandchildren, Keasha Kartak, Berkley Meeder, and Bohdan Dean Hurley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Inez, brothers Slim, Leo, Merle, Ralph, Jerry, and Lyle, sister Lola Ruegsegger, and great grandson, Brooks Dean Hurley.
