Obituary

Berniece Catherine Harter, 85, Winner, SD went to be with her Heavenly Father and husband on April 14, 2014. Berniece Catherine Ruhkamp was born in Witten, SD on March 18, 1929, to John and Margaret (Tappe) Ruhkamp. She went to country school in Witten and attended Saint Martin's Academy in Sturgis, SD. Berniece was united in marriage to Vern Frank Harter on May 12, 1949 in Spearfish, SD. Berniece was a very caring and loving person. She cared for her family as well as many children to whom she provided daycare. The passions of her life were her God, family, church family and numerous friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Berniece is survived by three sons: Lonny (Vickie) of Sturgis, SD, Lyle (Betty) of Pierre, SD, Russell (Dawn) of Harrisburg, SD and one daughter Marcia Torberson of Denver, CO; ten grandchildren: Eric Harter, Amy Fink, Heath (Kari) Harter, Alissa (Dan) Schumacher, Aaron, Chaz and Tara Harter, Lynsey, Kari, and Brandon Torberson; ten great-grandchildren: Berkeley, Gage, Hayden, Bryson, Emmett, Landon, Ryker, Trenton, Ashton and Capri. Other survivors include her sister Francis Wheeler of Ft. Collins, CO and sister-in-laws Gladys Harter, LaVonne Harter, Peggy Ruhkamp, Bev Ruhkamp and Vivian Ruhkamp along with brother-in-law Lloyd Harrington and many nieces and nephews. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Norbert, Loren, Jean, Kenny, David, Noel and sister Monica.
