Bernice "Bernie" Lyons, 92, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, January 5 th 2019 at the Abbington Senior Living in Mapleton, Utah. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner from 5-6PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00PM.
Bernice was born March 9 th , 1926 to Tell and Julia Wade. She was one of six children, three brothers and two sisters. She grew up on a homestead near Kewanee, NE and attended high school in Valentine. After graduating she attended college and taught at a country school. Later she worked for Prangs in Valentine.
On October 29 th , 1951 she married Dick Lyons. They lived on a ranch near Keyapaha, S.D. where they raised five children. As a rancher's wife she kept busy, but she still found time to spend entertaining her children. During the summer she enjoyed taking them fishing and in the winter ice skating. She also found time to be a gracious hostess to the many relatives that came to stay at the ranch, always preparing her delicious meals.
While her children attended high school she stayed in Winner, S.D. and worked for Sperlings and later at the Winner Hospital. Once her children graduated, she returned to the ranch where her and Dick enjoyed gardening, horseback riding and going on walks. She enjoyed listening to the birds and watching for the robins to return in the spring. She also loved the wild flowers and often came home from her walk with a bouquet of wild roses.
Bernice cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would spend many evenings out in the swing or gathered around the table playing cards with them.
In the winter months her and Dick enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren. She always carried her yarn and crochet needles and enjoyed sharing her beautiful afghans.
In 2013 her and Dick moved to Golden Prairie Manor in Winner. After her health declined in 2018, she moved to Mapleton, Utah and resided there until her death.
Survivors include daughters Marian (Craig) Murdock, Kathleen (Scott) Allen, Linda (Mark) Trandahl, Nancy (Tim) Raspiller, grandchildren Brady Lyons, Brook Weidenbenner, Andy (Samantha) Allen, Jessy Raspiller, Tyler Raspiller, Nick Trandahl, Ryan Trandahl, great grandchildren Ashlynn, Ethan, Levi, Jedidiah Weidenbenner, Isaiah Allen, brother-in-law's Hugh Wilber, Jim Frohman along with many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard Lyons, sons William (Bill) Lyons and infant son, daughter-in-law Cathy Lyons, brothers Howard, Joe and Les, sisters Margaret Wilber and Ruth Frohman.
