Belva Jean Leighton, 85, of Winner, SD passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Winner Regional Long-Term Care Facility in Winner, SD.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 at 10:00AM at the Witten Baptist Church in Witten, SD.  Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service.

Belva was born on March 11, 1941, in Winner, South Dakota, to Eldon and Ruth (Burdick) Sund.  She attended school in Winner until she was united in marriage to Wilford (Bud) Eugene Leighton on October 12, 1957.  Together they raised four children; Brenda, Vicky, Wilford (Jr.) and Kelly.  They made their home and raised their family in Witten, South Dakota.

Jean worked at Village Grocery for several years.  She enjoyed doing word searches and working on embroidery projects during her spare time.  She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.  She especially enjoyed having the grandchildren over spending days with them

In April, 2019 Jean and Bud moved to Winner, South Dakota.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Vicky (Jim) Supik of Winner, SD, her son Kelly (Jody) Leighton of Colome, SD.  Grandchildren; Kasie (Kyle) Leighton of Burke, SD, Lane (Jordyn) Leighton of Colome, SD, Westin Leighton of Colome, SD, Ryan Supik of Winner, SD, and Shane (Jesslon) Supik of Kimbal, SD, Jamey Hanson, Sioux Falls, SD, Jason (Crystal) Hanson of Belle Fourche and John Hanson, of WI, great-grandchildren; Bailey Supik of Gregory, SD, Camden Supik, Nolan Fields of Hill City, SD and a great-grandbaby expected in June.  Sisters; Carol Hight, Linda Sund, Mary Hodge, Wanda Klein, Connie Jones and Nancy Peters, brothers; Don Sund, Jim Sund and Roger Sund along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda (Vanderwalker) Leighton, her son Wilford (Jr.) Leighton, her sisters; Janet Sund and Ruth Marie Benedict, her brothers; Pat Sund and Larry Sund and her parents Eldon and Ruth Sund.
