Alyson Whiting, 77, of Winner, SD passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the Maggies Place Assisted Living Center in Overland Park, KS.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 10:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner, SD.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 6-7PM with a Rosary beginning at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of Alyson Whiting.

Alyson was born on April 23rd, 1947 to Frank and Barbara Kocer in Missoula, Montana and shortly thereafter moved to Phillip, South Dakota.  After graduating from Philip High School in 1965, she attended the University of South Dakota and later received her teaching degree from Sinte Gleska University. In 1971, Alyson met Stanley Whiting in Winner and they were later married on March 9th, 1974. Alyson and Stanley went on to have two children. Quentin is a pilot in Tampa, Florida and Curtis is a physician in Kansas City, Missouri.

She had various jobs throughout her life but the role she most loved and excelled at was that of homemaker and mother. As the oldest of six brothers and sisters, she certainly had plenty of practice growing up. Alyson was always generous with her time and loved spending it with her friends and family. She was active in ESA with her friends and in Cub Scouts with her children. She was always up for a game of Scrabble which she usually won. Tuesdays were reserved for "coffee with the ladies" which she looked forward to each week. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her cousin Polly. Alyson also enjoyed spending time with her husband. Stanley loved riding motorcycles and, perhaps against her better judgement, she sometimes accompanied him on the back of his Harley. After Stanley passed away, she spent time taking care of her beloved cats, bird watching, completing puzzles and spending quality time with her sons and daughters-in-law. When it came time to move out of her home in Winner, she only agreed on the condition that her cats would accompany her. Alyson loved children and was recently blessed with a grandson, Cade.  Nothing brought her more joy than being with her grandson this past year.

Alyson was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Barbara, husband Stanley, and brothers Jeff and Dan. She is survived by her sons Quentin (Diana) and Curtis (Ashrita), grandson Cade, sisters Julie, Lynn, and Leslie and many nieces and nephews.
