Obituary

Alvin "Pete" Long, 85, of Winner, SD passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, SD. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Baptist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service on Friday. Pete was born on November 14, 1929 to Joe & Mabel (Putzier) Long in Witten, SD. He was one of 7 children. When World War II started his old brothers went to the service, Pete stayed on the farm working with his family. When the Korean War started Pete enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 1951 and served on the USS Orleck until he was honorably discharged in September of 1955. On December 3 of 1951 he was united in marriage to Jeannette Likens. To this union 2 daughters Lynette and Lori were born. Upon returning to Winner he worked for Paul Blomstrom until 1957. He then went to work for Farmers CO-OP Inc. for 40 years retiring as assistant manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and putting up new fences. Pete is survived by his wife Jeannette of 63 years, children; Lynette Tjeerdsma of Springfield, Lori (Tad) Vosika of Winner, 3 grandchildren; Bobbi Tjeerdsma of Sioux Falls, Kyle (Jamie) Tjeerdsma of Wagner, Loni Vosika of Sioux Falls, 3 great-grandsons; Gavin, Mason & Caden Tjeerdsma of Wagner, one sister Verlene (Long) Kaiser and numerous nieces and nephews.
