Alvin Blacksmith Jr., 56, of Winner, SD passed away in Yankton, SD on Tuesday, December 27, 2023.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Winner Ideal Community Hall in Winner, SD.  Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery.  A wake service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 7:00PM at the Winner Ideal Community Hall.

"David" was born to Alvin Sr. and Frieda (Andrews) Blacksmith on June 9, 1967 in Wagner, SD. He was the only boy after 6 older sisters.  Because dad wanted a boy, hoping for one more son, mom and dad tried again and along came another girl Martha.  That was it, time to stop.

When Alvin (Dave) was school age he attended boarding school in Mission, SD.  On summer vacations from school he spent a lot of time fishing at Hamill Dam.  Laundry day mom would always remind us, "Be sure and check his pockets!  You never know what kind of fishing bait you're going to find!"  I think his favorite was old bacon.  One time finding a dried up stinky little frog.

In his late teens and twenties he loved playing baseball traveling wherever he could to get in on a game. He had a crazy sense of humor and enjoyed making everyone laugh.  He also enjoyed playing pool, throwing darts, horseshoes and challenging anyone to a mean game of cards and he was good at them all.  Football season he never missed a Monday night game rooting for his favorite team the Redskins.

Throughout his short time here he made a lot of friends and will be missed by many.  He wasn't a mushy kind of guy and had a difficult time saying "I love you!" But know he held many close in his heart and is finally happy and at peace.

Dave lost his struggle with poor health conditions and is finally at rest. Left to mourn are his children and grandkids Melissa (Nathaniel Jr., David and Hartley) Alicia (Nick Jr, Joclyn, Yasinya, Cobain and Zamiya) Hunter (Dimitri, Vladimir, Nikolei, Cecelia and Mathias).  Sisters (Marilyn, Dorothy, Dawn, Alice and Martha) and many many close family and friends.  Preceding him in death were parents Alvin Sr. and Frieda.  Sisters Veneda, Elizabeth, Mary and Alva and many many close family and friends.

Dave Says remember all the good times we shared and Doksha, Mitakuye Oyasin! (Until we meet again!)
