Allan Croston, 84, of Winner, SD passed away at his home in Winner surrounded by family on Friday, March 21, 2025.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 1:00PM at the First Christian Church in Winner, SD.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the First Christian Church from 6-7:00PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.  Burial will be held at a later date.

Allan D. Croston was born on August 31st 1940 to Hermine (Hespe) and Irvy T. Croston near Hamill, SD. He attended Bull Creek country school and graduated from Colome high school in 1958. After high school, he joined the armed forces and served until 1965.  After returning from the service, he worked construction for his brother Elroy Croston and Harry Jorgensen until 1972, he then operated his own construction business and worked as a substitute rural mail carrier for the post office, eventually transitioning to full time, where he made many lifelong friends. He received his 30-year service award in 2016 when he retired at the age of 76.

He met the love of his life, Deanna Fredricks, and they were married June 30th 1962.  To this union three children were born, Sandra, Thomas, and John.  He and Deanna lived in Winner until 1979 and raised their children, where he worked construction jobs and Deanna worked at Winner Regional. They moved to the farm for a few years, and eventually returned to Winner in the late 1980's.

When their children were little, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Allan loved his animals.  He had livestock, horses, and various farmstock. After the kids were grown and started having children of their own, he was the best grandpa. He loved babies and was constantly holding them and rocking them to sleep.  Being the best grandfather to not only the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also to the many grandpuppies and great grandpuppies.

Allan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Deanna Croston of Winner SD, one brother Myron (Jan) Croston of Cheyenne WY, daughter Sandy Croston of Winner SD, son Tom (Jill) Croston of Winner SD, son John (Stacy) Croston of St Francis MN. Grandsons, Tyler (Betsy) Croston of Colome SD, Shawn (Ashley) of Burke SD, Alex (Hailley) of St Francis MN. Granddaughters, Erica (Erik) Rindels of Elkton SD, Lindsey Taylor of Winner SD, Shannon Croston of St Francis MN, Elizabeth Croston of St. Francis MN. Great-Grandsons; Tayden Taylor, Daniel Croston, Jace Rindels, Ryker Taylor, Abram Croston, Camden Taylor, Caden Croston, and one great-granddaughter, Paizley Rindels. And his many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hermine and Ivry Sr, his sister Evelyn, a set of twins that passed at birth, his brothers Orville, LaVern, Arnold, Elroy, Duane, Ivry Jr., Ronald, and Floyd.
