Alice Daughters, 76, of Winner, SD passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10:00am at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 5-7pm at the church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm. Alice Eileen Keyser was born on September 12, 1937 in Boise, Idaho to Joseph and Elizabeth Keyser. As a young girl, Alice and her brother Larry, along with her parents lived in various placed across Idaho and Washington before settling in Seattle. Alice attended Holy Names Academy in Seattle and graduated in 1955. Alice embarked on a career as a stewardess with United Airlines in 1959. Her travels took her to many areas of the United States and gave her the opportunity to meet many intriguing passengers including Bobby Kennedy, J.C. Penney, and Satchel Page. Alice's career with United Airlines was an exciting time in her life and the people she worked with became lifelong friends. Little did Alice know, her travels would have her "landing" in South Dakota where she would meet a young college student named Bob Daughters. After a whirlwind romance, which involved numerous cross country trips between Vermillion and Denver, Bob and Alice were married in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 24, 1961. They spent their early married life in Denver. Bob and Alice moved to Winner, South Dakota in 1962 to join the family business, the Winner Livestock Auction Company. Alice quickly became involved in the Winner community and felt fortunate to be welcomed by Bob' s family - especially her sister in law, Birdie Daughters. Alice and Birdie spent many Friday nights playing cards or working on puzzles to pass the time until the sale was over. Alice always dreamed of being a mother and her and Bob were blessed with three children - Lynn, Ted, and Amy. Her world revolved around her children and their activities and friends. She was one of the many amazing "neighborhood moms" who made west Eight Street such a magical place for kids to live. May Baskets, parades, Star Light, Moon Light, and hours of life guarding by the pool all took place under Alice's watchful eye. Throughout the years, Alice continued to be an involved community member. She devoted her time to many youth activities - Camp Fire Girls, Winner Swim Team and AAU, Winner Parks and Recreation board, and spent many hours chaperoning and working at numerous school events. She proudly supported the Winner Warrior teams and clubs in their many endeavors. Alice also served on the Winner Community Playhouse board, various church committees, and the Winner Community Foundation board. Alice was currently a member of both the Winner City Planning Commission and the Winner Regional Hospital Board. Alice had many interests. She loved to read, knit, crochet, do crossword puzzles, travel, and follow family and friends on Facebook. She also liked trying new recipes and many throughout the years have savored her jams and jellies. Alice routinely sent cards and clippings from the newspaper to others and we often joked that she was single-handedly keeping the US Post Office in business. Alice genuinely enjoyed her time golfing, bowling, and playing bridge with her many friends. Her quick wit and sense of humor were a gift to those lucky enough to spend time with her. She was a gracious hostess and her home was always open to any and all. One of the true joys of Alice's life was being a grandmother to Tate and Scott. From the time they were born, she was their biggest fan. Alice sincerely cherished the time she spent following and supporting the boys in their activities. She loved being "Grandma Alice" to the many kids and teams she so dearly loved to follow. Some of her favorite evenings involved her laptop and the voice of Dan "DT" Meyer covering the Sully Buttes Chargers. Blessed for sharing her life are her three children; Lynn (Mark) Senftner, and grandson Scott of Onida, SD, Ted Daughters, Ft. Collins, CO, and Amy Daughters, Des Moines, IA. Alice is also survived by her sister-in-law Donna Keyser and nieces and nephews and families - Paula Spence, Mary Lu Daughters, Kay Musnuff, Erin Norton, Kathy Keyser, Mary Lawson, Susan Lipe, Helen Holmes, David Keyser, and Sean Keyser. Alice is also survived by her dear friends whom she considered family: Rhoda Lindholm, Jim, Teri, Brittany and Brianna Schmidt, Jim and Karen Schramm, Rodney and Rose Grossenburg. Alice is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her grandson, Tate Senftner, her parents Joseph and Elizabeth, brother Lawrence, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eldon and Birdie Daughters, and her in-laws, Ted and Mary Daughters.
